Americas longest running Safety at Sea Seminar, Celebrating 40 years of safety training.
The Annapolis Safety at Sea Seminar is held at the United States Naval Academy in Alumni Hall. The dates for 2019 are March 30 and 31.
The Annapolis SAS offers the following options and certification:
A US Sailing Certificate, valid for 5 years, can be obtained by attending Saturday only. The course is a full day and the cost is $175. World Sailing Certificate (ISAF) the Offshore Personal Safety Course, valid for 5 years, is available to a limited number of attendees (the first 100 to enroll). The cost is $325 for this two-day seminar and includes the World Sailing Certificate. (NEW** After 1/1/18, at least two members of the Newport to Bermuda crew must hold a World Sailing Certificate.) A Cruising Track is available as a 2-day seminar. Saturdays course is the same as above and yields the US Sailing Certificate. Sunday includes a more in-depth look at safely cruising with the option of Interactive small group discussion sessions or Practical hands-on, in pool life raft and safety training. The cost is $225 for this two-day option.
The content of the seminar includes the following topics: care and maintenance of safety equipment, storm sails, damage control and repair, heavy weather, seamanship, man overboard prevention and recovery, hypothermia, weather forecasting, and USCG SAR and communications. Unique to the Annapolis event are LIVE MOB recovery demonstrations and weather permitting, a demonstration of a live USCG helicopter air-lift. Speakers are industry specialists and have been selected by moderator Chuck Hawley to provide a maximum amount of information in this day-long session.
Fees includes morning coffee & box lunch. US SAILING members are entitled to a $5.00 discount (enter code USSAIL in discount code space, your name will be verified with US Sailing for discount). No refunds after March 15, 2019. Please compete separate forms for all attendees. US SAILING Certificates are given for Day I attendance. Both the US Sailing Certificate and the World Sailing Certficate are emailed from US Sailing a few weeks after the event. |
